From Overwhelm to Clarity
Simple ways to understand what you're feeling and why.
Overwhelm often feels like one giant, shapeless feeling. In reality, it's usually several smaller emotions tangled together — worry, frustration, tiredness and sometimes grief.
Untangle the Knot
Grab a piece of paper and write down everything on your mind, without judging or ordering it. Then, next to each item, write the feeling it brings up. Seeing it laid out makes it far less heavy.
Find the Need Underneath
Every emotion points to a need. Frustration might point to a need for fairness; exhaustion to a need for rest; anxiety to a need for certainty.
Ask yourself: what do I need right now, and what's one small way to meet it?
Small Steps Forward
Clarity rarely comes all at once. Pick one item from your list and take a single step — send the email, take the nap, ask for help. Momentum builds from there.
Conclusion
Overwhelm is a signal that you're carrying a lot. By naming the pieces and finding the needs beneath them, you can set some of that weight down.
